Congress 138th foundation Day:

Congress 138th foundation Day: Grand old national party, The Indian National Congress (INC) was established on December 28, 1885, in Bombay (Mumbai) with the effort of 72 delegates at Das Tejpal Sanskrit College. It was founded by AO Hume and Vyomesh Chandra Banerjee was elected as the President to serve the nation. Every year on December 28, the party has been celebrating its foundation day at its national headquarters in Delhi. The national president hoists the party flag at its Delhi headquater. But this year, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will visit Mumbai on the foundation day of the party on Wednesday, where its foundation was laid 137 years ago.

Instead of following tradition and hosting the main ceremony at the party’s national headquarters in Delhi this year, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will travel to Mumbai to commemorate the 137th anniversary of the party and celebrate the Foundation Day programme there.

Kharge became the first non-Gandhi to hold this role in 24 years after being elected as Congress President in September. Rahul Gandhi was chosen to lead the Congress in 2017, and Sonia Gandhi was chosen in 1998. The party lost the Gujarat Assembly elections after Kharge gained office, although winning the Himachal Pradesh polls.

Kharge has been concentrating on establishing relationships with party members and holding impromptu meetings at the party headquarters. On the party’s Foundation Day, he travelled to Mumbai in an effort to promote the values of the party to its members.

Earlier in the year 1985, Rajiv Gandhi attended the party’s foundation day in Mumbai as the Congress President. And that year the main event was done in Mumbai.

Congress has got a non-Gandhi President after 24 years. In 1998, Sonia Gandhi was made Congress President and in 2017 Rahul Gandhi was elected as a party president but he resigned from the post after the poll debacle in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
