Raman Jha, New Delhi: There are strong indications that the congress party is likely to amend its constitution and make former congress presidents life time members of the congress working committee, the highest decision making body in the congress party.
Sources say that this amendment is targeted at making Sonia and Rahul lifetime members of the CWC and since there is no other former congress president who is alive, it is expected that for the moment this will apply to them.
Later if and when Mallikarjun Kharge becomes the congress president he would also be included in this line up.
Senior leader Ambika Soni, known to be close to the Gandhi’s has been made the chairman of the constitution amendment committee which is likely to put forward this amendment before the plenary session to be held in Raipur from 24 to 26 February.

The chairman of the election authority Madhusudan Mistry said that as far as elections to the CWC are concerned the election authority is fully prepared and once it gets the notice of 24 hours it can hold elections.
Lists of AICC members are being prepared with the party strictly adhering to the prescribed norm of 1 AICC member for every 8 PCC members.
Earlier when elections were not being held for the CWC during the tenure of Sonia Gandhi, a lot of extra members were made aicc members to enable them to attend the session but now with the ongoing pruning and sorting out the original number is being adhered to.
A senior leader said this is to ensure that the constitutional norms are adhered to so that no one can challenge the election process for the CWC elections.
One point of intense speculation in congress and media circles in Delhi or whether Sachin Pilot will contest the elections to the CWC if they are held.
The general view is that he would be one of the top scorers and winners in the elections as would be Priyanka Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor and others.
