Coming Soon: Dehradun To Mussoorie In 15 Mins. Deets Inside

Dehradun is on the brink of hosting India's longest ropeway system, which will connect the city with Mussoorie.

Dehradun is on the brink of hosting India’s longest ropeway system, which will connect the city with Mussoorie. Mussoorie Sky Car Company Pvt. Ltd., a consortium led by FIL Industries Private Ltd, in partnership with POMA SAS France and SRM Engineering LLP, has initiated work on this project.

This ropeway, stretching over an impressive 5.5 km, is poised to become India’s longest. Operating as a mono-cable ropeway, the estimated cost for this grand endeavour is INR 300 crore. Anticipated to be completed by September 2026, it will revolutionize travel, reducing the commute time to a mere 15 minutes. Presently, it takes between 1.5 to 3 hours (subject to traffic) to traverse the approximately 33 km between Dehradun and Mussoorie.

An innovative feature of this ropeway system is that it will introduce 10-seater cabins for the first time in India. These cabins will be enclosed, fully ventilated, fitted with glazed windows, and equipped with automatic doors for added convenience.

Initially, the ropeway will have the capacity to transport 1300 passengers per hour in each direction. A key distinction is that it will be operational year-round, unaffected by weather conditions such as rain or snow.

The introduction of this ropeway is set to make a profound impact on reducing traffic congestion in the region, particularly during peak seasons. It marks the first ropeway system in India designed to cater to both tourism and urban mobility needs, serving as a vital link between these two Uttarakhand cities.

Owais Altaf Syed, Group Director of FIL Industries Limited, expressed enthusiasm about this mega ropeway project, which follows their successful Skyview project in Patnitop, Jammu. Speaking about the initiative, he stated, “The Mussoorie-Dehradun sustainable ropeway project is being built with state-of-the-art, world-class infrastructure. Once ready, it will not only provide a source of employment and generate revenue for the state but will also attract tourists from across the world, contributing significantly to the state’s GDP.”

Indeed, this project is poised to be a game-changer, offering enhanced connectivity and economic opportunities.
