Air India on Monday said two passengers on its San Francisco-Mumbai flight got uncomfortable after witnessing cockroaches in the flight but were later relocated to other seats.
The airline termed the incident as “unfortunate” and it happened on flight AI180, which was bound for Mumbai via Kolkata. An Air India spokesperson said the presence of a few small cockroaches on flight AI180 caused discomfort to two passengers.
According to the airline, the cabin crew acted promptly and shifted the passengers to other seats in the same cabin.
During the scheduled refuelling halt at Kolkata, ground staff conducted a thorough cleaning of the aircraft. The spokesperson said the cleaning work was completed on time and the aircraft departed for Mumbai.
Air India clarified that even though regular disinfectant spraying is done, there is always a possibility of insects entering the aircraft during ground handling.
The airline also said that it will investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future.
Air India apologised for the inconvenience caused to the passengers and said, “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
