Dehradun Cloudburst: A massive cloudburst in Dehradun’s Sahastradhara on Monday night has caused large-scale damage. Two to three major hotels and several shops in the main market were damaged due to debris falling after the cloudburst. The incident was reported from the Karliguard area of Sahastradhara in Uttarakhand, a famous tourist spot in Dehradun. Many shops were swept away by the strong current in the area, and two people are reported missing. No major loss of life or property has been confirmed so far.
Dehradun Cloudburst: CM Dhami monitors situation
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday stated that he is continuously monitoring the situation amid relief and rescue operations. He wrote on X, “Some shops have been damaged due to heavy rains in Sahastradhara, Dehradun, late last night. District administration, SDRF, and police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am constantly in touch with the local administration in this regard and am personally monitoring the situation”

SDRF and NDRF teams reached the spot immediately, and local residents were shifted to safe locations during the night. Heavy equipment, including JCBs, has been deployed at the site for relief and rescue, which are still ongoing. The search for the two missing persons is being carried operations out on a war footing.

Rakesh Javvadi, the village head of, Karliguard stated that the incident occurred around 11:30 PM. He added that following the cloudburst in Kardigaad, a massive amount of debris cascaded into the main market, destroying about seven to eight shops and damaging multiple hotels, as reported by Amar Ujala.
Tamsa river in spate
Meanwhile, the Tamsa River is in spate, and the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple has been inundated following heavy rainfall in Dehradun. Temple priest Acharya Bipin Joshi told ANI, “The river started flowing heavily since 5 AM, the entire temple premises were submerged… This kind of situation had not taken place in a very long time… Losses have been incurred at various places… People should avoid going near rivers at this time… The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is safe… No human loss has been reported as of now…”

A local described the incident and stated that water reached above the ‘Shivling’ ot the temple. “Around 4:45 am, the water entered the cave. Later, when the water level started increasing, it rose to 10-12ft. The water reached above the ‘Shivling’. Somehow, we made our way, and with the help of the rope, we came up,” he said.
