Jairam Ramesh once again pointed towards the veiled silence of the government on some issues. "The Prime Minister and the self-proclaimed Chanakya haven't spoken about the socio-economic caste census.

Congress Raises 50% Reservation Cap Issue, Challenges BJP To Clarify Position

New Delhi: The BJP distanced itself from Kangana Ranaut’s recent comments on the farm laws, but Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Friday that the party still firmly demands the return of the three laws. Earlier, Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut had suggested reinstating the three farm laws, which were repealed after long farmer protests.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh came out with his response: they had spoken about ‘400 seats’ and amending the Constitution. Now, our Prime Minister says nothing and lets others speak for him. The BJP continues to demand a return of the three black laws day after day.

Key Issues Remain Unaddressed Ahead Of Upcoming State Elections, Says Jairam Ramesh

He once again pointed towards the veiled silence of the government on some issues. “The Prime Minister and the self-proclaimed Chanakya haven’t spoken about the socio-economic caste census. They aren’t saying whether they will lift the 50% cap on reservations. These will be major issues in the upcoming state elections in Haryana, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra. June 4, 2024, was a turning point for Indian politics, and you’ll see more changes after the state elections.”

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut apologized on Wednesday and said she “regretted” the statements she had made about farm laws. She had quoted saying, “I understand this statement might be controversial, but the three farm laws should be reinstated. Farmers themselves should ask for it.”

Kangana Ranaut Issued Apology

Just a day after the BJP declared that her remarks were “not sanctioned,” Kangana took back her statements and apologized. She said in the future that she will see to it that her opinions align with what the party wishes and not freely express her views.

Kangana, in a self-made video released on X: “When the farmer laws were brought to the floor, many people supported those. But our Prime Minister wisely withdrew those laws. All the members of the party need to respect his decision. I also have to remind myself here that I am no longer an artist; I am a worker of the BJP. My opinions will be the opinions of the party, not mine. If any of my words harmed anyone’s feelings, I apologize for it and withdraw my words.”

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
