Sengol Controversy: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Friday claimed that there was no documented evidence of Lord Mountbatten, C Rajagopalachari and Jawaharlal Nehru describing the ‘Sengol’.

Union Home Minister in a press conference on May 24, said that PM Modi would establish the ‘Sengol’ in the new parliament building on May 28.

It is being said that the British had transferred power to India through a Sengol in 1947. However, now Congress was calling this claim fake. In a tweet, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said these claims are bogus and being planted in the minds of people through WhatsApp. The media is also beating the drum on these claims.

Jairam Ramesh alleged that PM Narendra Modi and his drummers are using it for their political gains in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. He wrote that they confused the facts with their purposes.

Replying to Congress allegations, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked why the Congress party dislike Indian traditions and culture so much. In a tweet, Shah said, “A sacred Sengol was given to Pandit Nehru by a holy Shaiv Math in Tamil Nadu as a symbol of India’s independence but it was sent to a museum.”

Shah also said, “The Thiruvaduthurai Aadheenam, a holy Shaivite monastery, talked about the importance of Sengol at the time of India’s independence. Congress is telling the history of Adhinam as bogus! Congress needs to consider its behaviour”

Union Minister Smriti Irani also took harsh on Congress, she said, “Sengol is a symbol of democratic freedom of India, to that symbol which is an important part of our glorious history, Gandhi Family had put in a dark corner of a museum as a stick of Mr Nehru.”
