Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has once again created a stir in the corridors of politics. Speaking on the issue of illegal infiltration on India’s eastern border, she made a highly controversial statement against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, following which a series of criticism started all around. She said that Amit Shah’s “head should be chopped off and put on the table”, which has shaken the entire political landscape.
Expressing concern over the alleged infiltration from Bangladesh, Mahua Moitra launched a scathing attack on the border security policies of the central government at a public event.

NewsX quoted Mahua Moitra saying, “I am asking if there is no one to protect our borders and people from other nations are entering India in lakhs and crores…If they are eyeing our mothers and sisters…If they are taking over our land…At first, Amit Shah’s head must be chopped off and put on the table.”
Her remarks drew sharp reactions from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and several other political parties. BJP leaders called it a statement of violent, unconstitutional and criminal nature for a minister. Many leaders termed it “unparliamentary,” “dangerous,” and “an insult to the dignity of public representation.”
Moitra’s remarks were made in the context of alleged illegal infiltration from Bangladesh and the population and security challenges it poses in border areas like West Bengal. She blamed the entire situation on the central government and its functioning, calling it a “security failure.”
She further said, “The Home Ministry and the Home Minister who cannot protect the borders of this country…The Prime Minister is himself saying that people from outside are coming here and preying on our mothers and sisters.”
This controversy has come to the fore at a time when the central government is carrying out the process of identifying and expelling Rohingya and illegal Bangladeshi citizens living in the country under ‘Operation Pushback’.
However, Mahua Moitra says that despite these efforts, illegal infiltration still remains a serious issue. He claimed that despite the presence of agencies at the borders, the locals were not getting any security benefits.
She also alleged, “BSF is here. What is BSF doing? We (natives) remain fearful of the BSF. We do not see anyone infiltrating here.”
The BSF, which comes under the Union Home Ministry, has not yet given any official response on the entire matter. However, some officials associated with the ministry have described these comments as “motivated by political interest” and “far from ground reality”.
At the same time, the BJP is preparing to raise the issue in Parliament and is considering the possibility of filing a complaint under various sections of the IPC for threatening the Home Minister and inciting violence. Sources associated with the Home Ministry have called Moitra’s remarks a “direct violation of democratic values and national interests”.
There has been no official response from the TMC leadership on this controversy yet, but according to party insiders, there is definitely some discomfort in the party over Mahua Moitra’s sharp language, even though she continues to criticize the policies of the BJP.
This new controversy further strengthens Mahua Moitra’s image, in which she is known as a vocal and outspoken leader, who does not hesitate to cross the limits of political decorum. However, after this statement of hers, the possibility of legal action against her or bringing a censure motion in Parliament cannot be ruled out.
