Delhi: As North India shivers in the grip of a severe cold wave, visibility plummeted to zero meters in Bathinda and Chandigarh, Punjab, while Delhi grappled with 50 meters of visibility due to dense fog. The inclement weather has led to disruptions in air traffic and delays in train schedules, causing inconvenience to commuters.

Delhi – Extended Cold Wave Predicted by IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the persistence of the cold wave in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Delhi-NCR on January 20 and 21. Residents in these states are bracing themselves for biting temperatures, with little relief expected until January 21. Foggy conditions are anticipated in various cities, including Bikaner (Rajasthan), Chandigarh (Punjab), Patna, Delhi, Noida, and Greater Noida, leading to reduced visibility. Residents are advised to take precautions during the early morning and late evening hours.

Delhi – Transportation Woes Continue: Flights and Trains Delayed

Due to the dense fog, flights and trains are experiencing delays across affected regions. Passengers faced disruptions at Delhi airport, where flights to Dubai and Jaipur were delayed. Commuters on 22 Northern Railway trains experienced delays, with train No. 11841 Khajuraho-Kurukshetra Express delayed by 6.30 hours and train No. 12801 from Puri to New Delhi running about 6 hours behind schedule. Bonfires outside Delhi’s Kashmere Gate and Anand Vihar bus stand provided some relief to people seeking warmth amid the cold spell.
