A special PMLA court in Raipur has remanded Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, to 14 days of judicial custody after his Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody ended on July 22, 2025. The court rejected the ED’s plea to extend his custodial interrogation, despite allegations that Chaitanya played a central role in laundering over Rs 1,000 crore in proceeds from an alleged liquor scam between 2019 and 2022.
Chaitanya Baghel was arrested on July 18, 2025, for his alleged role in a Rs 1,000 crore liquor scam and was placed in five-day Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody, which expired on July 22, 2025. The ED announced his arrest, including a post on X, and produced him before a special PMLA court in Raipur. On Tuesday, the court rejected the ED’s plea for extended custody and remanded Chaitanya to 14 days of judicial custody, escalating the high-profile case.
