Following this, the potential for uranium is being investigated. The Chhattisgarh government’s Mineral Resources Department has issued an order. The order mentions a survey for uranium near the village of Dhangao-Gadhatara, close to the scenic spot Kosagai in Korba.

Five Square Kilometer Area Reserved for Research

For the next five years, the Directorate of Atomic Mineral Exploration and Research will conduct research in this village. A limited area of the village has been reserved for this purpose, where the search for uranium deposits will begin. The village of Dhangao-Gadhatara has been assigned to the Directorate of Atomic Mineral Exploration and Research for a five-year period, during which they will carry out their research.

According to the order issued by the Chhattisgarh Mineral Resources Department, a five-square-kilometer area in this village has been reserved. Under the Atomic Minerals Concession Rules 2016, uranium, lithium, and associated minerals will be surveyed in this area.

An order issued by Sunil Kumar Jain, the Special Secretary of the Mineral Resources Department, has reserved a five-square-kilometer area in the village of Dhangao-Gadhatara. The Directorate of Atomic Mineral Exploration and Research of the Government of India has been notified as the exploration agency for this area. This agency will now explore the village and search for rare minerals like uranium.

What is Uranium?

Uranium is used by the military to power nuclear submarines and nuclear weapons. It is also used for nuclear power generation. Most developing countries, including India, currently rely on coal-based power. However, developed countries are now moving towards nuclear-based power generation, which requires uranium. Uranium is a very rare mineral found on Earth. One kilogram of uranium costs approximately three crore rupees.

Lithium Block Already Auctioned
Recently, a lithium block in Katghora, Korba district, was auctioned. The village of Ghuchapur and its surrounding 250 hectares were identified as a lithium block. After confirming the presence of lithium, the Central Ministry of Mines auctioned it in the fourth round of auctions. Maki South Mining Private Limited won the highest bid. Lithium block operations will begin soon, and production will start thereafter.
