Chhattisgarh: Police reported that a collision between a goods vehicle and a truck in Chhattisgarh’s Bemetara district resulted in the tragic deaths of five women and three children, with 23 others sustaining injuries. The incident occurred late Sunday night near Kathia village as the victims were on their way back from a family gathering, according to a senior police official.
The deceased, residents of Patharra village, had attended a family function in Tiraiyya village before the accident, the official added. Among those who lost their lives were Bhuri Nishad (50), Neera Sahu (55), Geeta Sahu (60), Agniya Sahu (60), Khushbu Sahu (39), Madhu Sahu (5), Rikesh Nishad (6), and Twinkle Nishad (6), as identified by authorities.
The injured individuals were admitted to local hospitals, with four of them in critical condition later transferred to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Raipur, as per the official’s statement.

Meanwhile, on April 28, police also reported that a speeding truck collided head-on with a bus on Sunday afternoon, resulting in six fatalities and over 20 injuries. The collision occurred near Jamaldipur village on the Hardoi-Unnao road in the Safipur police station area. Following the accident, the bus driver fled the scene, while authorities arrested the truck driver.
Injured individuals were referred from the community health center in Safipur to district hospitals in Unnao and Kanpur. Circle Officer Safipur, Rishikant Shukla, confirmed the casualty count, stating that the bus was carrying 35 passengers. Of the injured, 11 were transferred to Kanpur, and 9 were taken to the district hospital in Unnao. Passengers with minor injuries received first-aid treatment and were discharged.
