Chhatrapati  Shivaji’s portrait Vandalism in JNU: Members of the BJP’s students’ wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), accused students of Left-backed affiliates on Monday of also being responsible for the desecration of a portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his birth anniversary on Sunday at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

It had previously accused the Congress-backed National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) of orchestrating the vandalism at the JNU students’ body’s office. The ABVP also proposed naming the JNUSU office after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

“We had installed a portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the JNUSU office,” Kumar Ashutosh, social media convenor, ABVP at JNU, told ANI on Monday. Members of left-wing student unions, however, removed the portrait and threw the garland around it into a trash can, causing a scuffle (with ABVP members). In addition, 5-6 members were injured in the clash.”

“We demand that the JNU administration and the Delhi Police take firm action against them. We also want the JNUSU office to be named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, according to the ABVP member.

He went on to say, “The only job of the Left-backed student activists appears to be to push a narrative against the stalwarts and warriors who built and fought for India. This is a well-planned Leftist conspiracy.”

“They raised anti-India slogans on the JNU campus in 2016 and are engaging in similar misbehaviour now. We at the ABVP will always stand up to such plots to bring India down or tarnish the country’s image “Ashutosh explained.

Ashutosh responded when asked if they had reported the alleged vandalism to the police “After receiving our complaint, a police team arrived on campus. We intend to file a formal complaint as soon as possible.”

The NSUI had previously denied any involvement in the alleged desecration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s portrait on the JNU campus.
