A history sheeter Balaji alias Kakka Thoppu Balaji was gunned down by police in an encounter this early morning at Vyasarpadi, Chennai. His body has been taken to Stanley Hospital for further examination.

Intelligence Leads to Encounter
On Tuesday, the police received the information that Balaji was to be spotted in the Pulianthope region. The Inspector Buhari-headed team reached the spot and localized Balaji’s position at the B&C quarters. As per reports, Balaji started attacking the policemen to evade the arrest. He was eventually shot dead on the spot.
Criminal Background
Balaji, 36, was a known underworld figure in Chennai for over 50 cases pending against him. Charges included murder and kidnapping among other serious crimes. He was also accused of murdering PWD contractor Kamaraj, son of a DMK functionary, near Ennore.
Arrests In The Past And Judicial Cases
Balaji belonged to BRN Garden, Valluvar Nagar, Broadway, Chennai. He had been arrested several times in the past and had experienced severe judicial penalties. He was also arrested as one of the leading accused behind a petrol bomb blast in Chennai.
