History Sheeter 'Seizing' Raja was killed in police encounter

Chennai: History Sheeter ‘Seizing’ Raja was shot dead by police at Akkarai on Monday morning after he allegedly tried to attack the police team. Raja was taken into custody yesterday in connection with the murder of BSP leader Armstrong.

According to reports, while being taken to Neelankarai to recover the hidden arms from him, he reportedly launched an attack on the police which led to his encounter. It is the third police encounter in Chennai since Officer Arun took over as City Commissioner. This also marks the second encounter in Chennai in a week.

Who Was Gangster ‘Seizing Raja’?

‘Seizing’ Raja, was a notorious gangster from Chengalpattu. He started his career as a highwayman but soon gravitated to bigger crimes, which included threatening businessmen and kidnapping real estate tycoons.

Raja had over 30 cases registered against him, including murder, attempted murder, extortion (“mamool” from businessmen), and kidnapping. He had 33 cases pending and was one of the three main accused in the murder case of Bahujan Samaj Party state president Armstrong.

Police Kills Another History-Sheeter In A Separate Encounter

In a separate incident recently, history-sheeter Kakka Thoppu Balaji was killed in a police encounter at Chennai’s Viyasarpadi. While police were conducting vehicle checks at Mullaiagar Checkpost, they spotted a suspicious vehicle carrying two people. When the officers asked the persons traveling in the vehicle to come out, Balaji, fled with the car. The police followed the vehicle and shot Balaji in the chest. Upon arrival at the hospital, he was declared dead.

According to the reports, Balaji was charged with as many as 58 cases – 6 murder cases, 17 attempts to murder and one drug (ganja) dealing case.

Another history-sheeter Thiruvengadam, accused in Armstrong’s murder, was gunned down by the Tamil Nadu police in July 2024.
