Work for the stretch of Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway in Kancheepuram is Underway. Around 65% of the work for construction of the four lane, access-controlled Greenfield Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway has been completed. The total project costs Rupees 17,000 crore.
Where it covers total 105.7 km through districts, which includes Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore and Ranipet. The expressway begins from Sriperumbudur and ends at Gudipala in Andhra Pradesh. After this it will reach Bengaluru.
The work in the state regarding this expected to get completed by 2025,sources in National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) told The Hindu. This construction of this route will reduce the travelling time. This save time of commuters travelling using this route. Not only this but it shortens the distance between Chennai and Bengaluru.
The 24.50 km stretch from Wlajapet to Arakkonam has highest percentage of work completed. The civil work in this particular section costs Rupees 662.7 crore and cost of utilities is Rupees 20. 46 crore.
Around 70% of the work on 24-km stretched Gudipala-Walajapet has been completed till now. Over 64% of the fourth package which is from Kancheepuram to Sriperumbudur has been completed. It is a 31.007 km stretched route.
According to officials, the third package, which runs from Arakkonam to Kancheepuram, gets least progress with 52% of work done.
An engineer associated with this project mentioned that, “Since the project is a greenfield one, we have not faced issues relating to land acquisition. The road passes through open lands mostly. We faced issues when it came to shifting electricity towers that were on the expressway’s path. This took us some time since we had to get concurrence from the respective revenue department authorities”.
Bridges Built On The Expressway
The project will consist of 34 major and 31 minor bridges running to a combined route of 15 km. The longest bridge in the alignment will have a length of 840 meter. This stretch will have six toll plaza.
