New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday during his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast that the Chandigarh international airport will be named after freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh as a tribute to him.
The announcement comes three days before the martyr’s birth anniversary on September 28. He urged people to celebrate the birth anniversary with fanfare.
“As a tribute to the great freedom fighter, it has been decided that the Chandigarh airport will now be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh,” PM Modi said.

In the broadcast, the prime minister also paid tribute to BJP ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya on his birth anniversary today.
Mentioning the recent arrival of cheetahs in the country after 70 years, he said that we have constituted a task force to monitor the cheetahs, and they will decide when people can see them.
PM also pitched for yoga, and conservation of water, and coastal cleaning of the seas. He also noted the ongoing campaign for cleanliness under “Swachh Bharat Mission.
He pitched for “vocal for local” as he suggested people to purchase locally-manufactured products in the coming festivals, including Khadi goods. He said it would also strengthen the ‘Atmanirbhar’ drive.
