New Delhi: Atleast 15 people have died, also including 4 policemen, in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Wednesday after a transformer bursted on the banks of the Alaknanda River.
The incident took place at the Namami Gange project site. Earlier the news agency ANI quoted DGP Ashok Kumar saying that the in-charge of the police outpost on the Badrinath Highway also died in the incident.
“Around 15 people including a police sub-inspector & five home guards have died. Investigation is underway. Prima Facie reveals that there was current on the railing and the investigation will reveal the further details,” says Additional Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, V Murugesan.

He said, “It is a sad incident. District administration, police, and SDRF have reached the spot. The injured are being referred to higher centre and are being shifted to AIIMS Rishikesh via helicopter. Orders have been given to conduct a Magisterial inquiry.”
The CM said those who will be found guilty behind the incident will be punished.
