Centre Releases Over Rs 540 Crore Under PM-KISAN to Support 27 Lakh Flood-Hit Farmers in THESE States

The Government of India has released over Rs 540 crore under the 21st instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme to support more than 27 lakh farmers in three flood-hit states: Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand.

The central government has provided significant relief to farmers affected by recent natural disasters. On Friday, an amount of Rs 540 crore was transferred to over 2.7 million farmers in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand under the 21st installment of the PM-KISAN scheme.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the distribution of this installment via video conferencing. An official government statement stated that this assistance was released prioritizing farmers in these three states affected by floods and landslides.

The objective of this financial assistance is to ensure that affected farmers receive timely relief and resume farming. This amount of Rs 540 crore was transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of farmers, including approximately 2.7 lakh women farmers.

The state-wise distribution was as follows:

Rs 160.21 crore was provided to 801,045 farmers in Himachal Pradesh,
Rs 221.98 crore to 1109,895 farmers in Punjab,
Rs 157.83 crore to 789,128 farmers in Uttarakhand.

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was launched in February 2019, under which landholding farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the government stands with farmers in every situation. This amount of Rs 2,000 will not only help farmers with household expenses but also support them in purchasing seeds and fertilizers, enabling them to prepare for the next crop and return to farming with confidence. With this latest installment, these three states have so far been provided an amount of more than Rs 13,626 crore under the PM-KISAN scheme.
