The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday accused the BJP-led central government of plotting to arrest Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in relation to the alleged excise policy scam. This accusation comes ahead of the Supreme Court hearing his bail plea in the ED’s money laundering case. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed that the CBI might fabricate a case against the CM to arrest him. He mentioned that with a strong possibility of Arvind Kejriwal getting bail from the Supreme Court, sources informed him that the Centre is planning to register a fake CBI case against the Delhi CM and have him arrested. He added that the entire nation is aware of this and stands in solidarity with Arvind Kejriwal. The CBI on Tuesday filed an application before a special court seeking production warrants for Kejriwal. The court issued the warrants, and the CM will be produced before the court on Wednesday. The agency informed the court that it had discovered new evidence against Kejriwal. The High Court stated that the trial court’s order "reflects perversity" and that the lower court did not "appropriately appreciate" the material presented by the Enforcement Directorate. The trial court had granted bail to Kejriwal on June 20 in the money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam and ordered his release on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. The Delhi excise policy was scrapped in 2022 after the lieutenant governor ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities and corruption in its formulation and execution. According to the CBI and the ED, irregularities occurred during the modification of the excise policy, with undue favours being extended to the license holders.
