The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out the possibility of gang rape in the rape and murder case of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, an incident that had shocked the nation. In its charge sheet filed today, the CBI identified Sanjoy Roy, a former contractual worker with the Kolkata Police, as the sole perpetrator behind the heinous crime.
Key Findings of the CBI Investigation
The CBI, which concluded its investigation within two months, will submit the charge sheet to the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Sealdah later today. According to CBI sources, the charge sheet names Roy as the primary accused and is based on statements from around 200 individuals.
Timeline of Events
The tragic incident came to light on August 9, when the doctor was found dead at RG Kar Hospital. Investigations revealed the extent of the horrific ordeal she had endured. Following widespread protests across the country, the court ordered the CBI to take over the investigation.
Roy, who was a regular visitor to the hospital, was arrested by the Kolkata Police the day after the incident. Once the CBI assumed control of the investigation, the police handed over Roy, along with critical evidence.
Case Set for Court Hearing
With the charge sheet ready, the case is now set to proceed in court as the investigation draws to a close. The CBI’s findings have ruled out the involvement of any other individuals, bringing clarity to a case that has drawn national attention.
