Car Falls Into Pit Filled With Water; Claims Lives Of 4 Family Members

Tragedy struck four family members who met a drastic end as their car plunged into a rainwater-filled pit by the roadside in Vidisha district.

Madhya Pradesh: Tragedy struck four family members who met a drastic end as their car plunged into a rainwater-filled pit by the roadside in Vidisha district. Out of the deceased was a woman and three young children.

This heart-wrenching incident unfolded on Monday night as the family was returning from a visit to their farmland in Haidargarh village, said the police officer.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Samir Yadav, the unfortunate mishap occurred when the driver attempted to reverse the car to navigate a turn, causing it to plunge into a pit filled with rainwater. In a swift response, two other family members in the vehicle were rescued by vigilant villagers and are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

The victims have been identified as Shakeela Bi (30), Nikhat (13), Ayan (10), and Shaad (7), as confirmed by the ASP. While three bodies were recovered by local residents, the fourth was found inside the car after a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) successfully extricated the vehicle from the pit, around 11 PM.

Meanwhile, last month a similar incident took place in Mumbai. A part of the road abruptly caved in due to heavy rains, which led to several two-wheelers and cars getting stuck and damaged due to a huge pit on the road. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries caused by the accident.
