New Delhi: Hearing a case related to a video of sexual abuse during Manipur violence, Cheif Justice of India DY Chandrachud told the lawyer that we cannot justify the incident by saying that crime against women are also taking place in other parts of the nation.

The court noted that there are crime against women across the country that is our social reality. But he said that “we are dealing with an unprecedented magnitude of violence against women in communal and sectarian strife.”

“We cannot justify what happened in Manipur by saying that this and this happened elsewhere. Are you saying protect all women or don’t protect anyone?” he added.

This came after a lawyer mentioned a plea saying Manipur-like incident happened in West Bengal and Rajasthan too. The lawyer cited a video coming from West Bengal that showed  a Panchayat candidate was forcefully stripped and paraded naked in the area.

The plea added that “daughters pan India need to be protected.”
