California-Based Engineer Held At Delhi Airport For Raping Kolkata Techie – How Did Police Nab Him After Two Years?

In a shocking incident, a California-based engineer has been arrested for raping a software engineer in Kolkata. The man has been arrested from Delhi while he was boarding an international flight. He was stopped at the airport and arrested in rape case. The action followed a lookout notice which was issued against him in the rape case registered at New Market police station in Kolkata, two years ago. The accused was detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport by immigration authorities on Friday and handed over to Delhi police. The Delhi police then informed the Kolkata police.

What Did Police Say?

According to police, the accused, resident of Midnapore had met the woman through Facebook around 2018. The woman was also a software engineer. Their conversation included video calls and it soon turned into a relationship. The man visited the women in Kolkata and took her to various places. The woman claimed that the accused took her to different hotels in Kolkata, where they reportedly engaged in a physical relationship. She further added that whenever she expressed desire to visit the accused’s home in Midnapore, he would ignore it and make excuse of the place being far. He insisted on meeting in Kolkata only.

Police revealed that during 2018-2022, whenever the accused returned from the US, he would take her to different hotels. In 2022, he again took her to a hotel in New Market area and allegedly raped her again. During this time, when the woman brought up topic of marriage, the accused promised her to marry her after his next return from the US. However, upon his return to the US, he started ignoring her calls and only replied to messages. As the pattern continued, she realised that she had been deceived and went on to file complaint against him at New Market police station, at the end of 2022.

How Did Police Nab Him?

TOI reported that the accused had changed his mobile number, address in Kolkata and even planned to move into a new address in California. He couldn’t be apprehended earlier as he was abroad. The police had issued a lookout circular two months ago, following a court order, after they were unable to track him.
