EC announces Bypolls for 8 Assembly seats in 7 States – Check voting and counting dates

Bye-elections 2025: The bypolls will be held in the following constituencies: Tarn Taran in Punjab, Ghatshila in Jharkhand, Anta in Rajasthan, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Dampa in Mizoram, and Nuapada in Odisha, Budgam and Nagrota constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.

Bye-Elections 2025: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the schedule for bye-elections to eight Assembly constituencies across seven states. The poll panel said that the polling will be held on November 11, while votes will be counted on November 14, 2025.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced the full schedule of the bye-elections at a press conference in Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi. The bypolls will be held in the following constituencies: Tarn Taran in Punjab, Ghatshila in Jharkhand, Anta in Rajasthan, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Dampa in Mizoram, and Nuapada in Odisha, Budgam and Nagrota constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.

The results of the bypolls to the eight assembly seats will be announced alongside the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. Bihar will go to the polls on November 6 and 11, in a marathon two-phase exercise to elect members of the 243-seat Assembly. The counting of votes will be held on November 14.

In Jammu & Kashmir and Odisha, the last date of filing nominations is October 20. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 22, and the last date of withdrawal is October 24. The code of conduct came into effect in all eight assembly constituencies as soon as the election dates were announced.

The last date of filing election nominations in Jharkhand, Mizoram, Telangana, and Punjab is October 21. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 22, and the last date of withdrawal is October 24.

Election nominations in Rajasthan can be filed until October 21. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 23, and withdrawals can be made until October 27. Voting will take place on November 11, and counting will take place on November 14.

The Aam Aadmi Party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) has nominated S. Harmeet Singh Sandh to contest the bypolls from Punjab's Tarn Taran seat. The Congress has nominated Taksali leader Karanbir Singh Burj. The BJP has fielded former Akali and Youth Akali leader Harjeet Singh Sandhu. The Akali Dal has joined forces with the Azad Group and nominated the group's leader, Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa.
