A burglar in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, gets apprehended after an ill-fated nap resulting from the effects of alcohol. The incident unfolded in the Krishna Vihar area of Naubasta, where the homeowner’s family discovered the intruder comfortably sleeping in their kitchen and promptly handed him over to the police.
The accused, identified as Deepak Shukla, a resident of Dayalpuram, had entered the residence along with two accomplices with theft in mind. Unfortunately for Shukla, who was drunk, dozed off in the kitchen while his partners managed to flee with stolen valuables.
As per the reports, the homeowner went to his native place to attend the final rites of his recently deceased wife, along with other family members. Before departing, he asked his nephew to periodically check the house in his absence for security purposes.
Upon his nephew’s inspection, a scene of burglary greeted him, and the unexpected sight of a stranger asleep in the kitchen. Subsequently, he promptly notified the homeowner, who rushed back home, only to discover losses amounting to over Rs 1.5 lakh.
Indra Kumar Tiwari, the homeowner, recounted, “When my nephew reached home, he found the gate broken, everything inside the house lying scattered. In the kitchen, he found a man asleep.”
Taking immediate action, Indra Kumar’s nephew handed the intruder over to the police. Police investigations further unveiled the peculiar circumstances surrounding Shukla’s capture. It appeared that his partners-in-crime had abandoned him at the scene due to his inebriation, leaving him passed out in the kitchen.
Shukla later confessed to being a painter who occasionally resorted to burglary at residences where he had previously worked. He admitted that under the influence of alcohol, he dozed off amid the operation, while his accomplices made off with the stolen goods.
The police took another one of Shukla’s associates into custody, identified as Utkarsh, and continued their search for the elusive third accomplice, Sunit Tiwari.
