Delhi: CBI has busted a bribe racket in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML), New Delhi, and has arrested nine people including two doctors and the hospital staff. The bribery case is from the cardiology department of RML Hospital in which Dr. Parvathgouda, assistant professor and Ajay Raj, professor of the cardiology department have been arrested.

They were allegedly demanding and accepting bribes from agencies for allowing the use of their medical equipment and promoting them. The suppliers have been identified as Naresh Nagpal, Abrar Ahmed, Akarshan Gulati, Monika Sinha, and Bharat Singh Dalal.

Among the nine arrested are the two doctors, a senior technical in charge Rajnish Kumar, clerks, middlemen and medical equipment suppliers. The CBI conducted a search at 15 locations to track down the involved. Regarding the clerk Bhuwal Jaiswal and the nurse Shalu Sharma, the agency has alleged their involvement and labeled them as habitual offenders who are “in the habit of demanding undue advantage from patients for facilitating appointments and admission in the hospital”.

An FIR has been lodged on May 7 against all involved in this bribery case. They have been booked under the charges of criminal conspiracy and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

This is the second bribery case exposed in one of the top Delhi hospitals in recent times. Earlier, a neurosurgeon from Safdarjung Hospital, Dr. Manish Rawat, was arrested along with four others for allegedly forcing patients to buy equipment from a particular company at unreasonable charges.
