In a shocking turn of events, a deepfake video featuring Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath was posted on social media and quickly went viral. An FIR has been filed at Hazratganj police station under sections 352, 353, 196(1), 299 of the BNS and IT Act 66. The case was lodged by BJP leader Rajkumar Tiwari, a resident of Narhi area in Hazratganj. The video was released from a Facebook account named “Pyara Islam.”

In May last year, another deepfake video of Yogi Adityanath went viral, leading to the arrest of a man in Noida. The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested a man for allegedly posting an AI-generated deepfake video of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officials said on Thursday. Additional Director General of Police (UP STF) Amitabh Yash stated that the video was used to disseminate misleading facts, strengthening anti-national elements.
