Ariyalur: A truck carrying LPG cylinders from Trichy to Ariyalur caught fire after overturning on a curve on Monday, leading to a series of powerful explosions.
According to reports, the driver, identified as Kanagaraj, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to topple onto its side. The friction from the accident reportedly triggered an initial cylinder blast, which then set off multiple explosions as the fire spread due to the intense heat.
Kanagaraj sustained burn injuries and was taken to the Ariyalur District Government Hospital for treatment.
District Collector Rathnasamy, the District Superintendent of Police, and Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the scene. Several fire tenders were deployed to bring the blaze under control and prevent further explosions.
Videos shared from the site showed multiple cylinders exploding in succession, with thick plumes of smoke rising and loud blasts echoing through the area.
