In other development, ANI has cited that a committee in the Defence Ministry has accepted the need for the service to acquire new multi-role fighter aircraft in order to improve its fighting capabilities. The arrival of the IAF requirement is learnt to have been part of the report submitted by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh to the Defence Minister on ‘Capability Enhancement of IAF’.
Sources told ANI that the committee has given its approval for the purchase of new multi-role fighter jets as part of the IAF’s preparations for battling future conflicts. The committee submitted its recommendations to the government when the US was pushing for selling its single-engine F-35 fifth-generation fighter while the Russian side was making the case for its Su-57 fifth-generation fighter.
