The National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court held 28 accused convicted in the infamous Chandan Gupta murder case taking place on Jan 26, 2018. The quantum of punishment will be declared on Friday.
Chandan Gupta was shot dead when he participated in the yatra organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and other Hindu groups. The clash erupted when two groups confronted each other over nationalistic slogans being chanted. During the altercation, Gupta was shot and later died at the hospital.
The court found the accused guilty of several charges, including murder, attempted murder, rioting, and insulting the national flag. The judge announced that the sentencing for those convicted will take place soon. However, two individuals were acquitted due to insufficient evidence against them.
Chandan’s parents expressed their faith in the judicial process and hope for justice after a long wait of nearly seven years since their son’s tragic death. This case has highlighted ongoing tensions in the region and has drawn significant attention from both the public and authorities.
In the Chandan Gupta murder case, 28 individuals have been found guilty. The convicted individuals include Wasim, Naseem, Mohammad Zahid Qureshi (also known as Jagga), Asif Qureshi (nicknamed Hitler), Aslam Qureshi, Akram, Taufiq, Khillan, Shabab Ali Khan, Rahat, Salman, Mohsin, Asif Jimwala, Saqib, Bablu, Nishu (also known as Jishan), Wasif, Imran, Shamshad, Jafar, Sakir, Khalid Parvez, Faizan, and Imran. They are currently imprisoned in Lucknow jail. Additionally, Munazir is held in Kasganj jail. During this time, Salim surrendered himself to the court. All these convicted individuals have been sentenced to life imprisonment together.
