Preliminary reports indicate that a total of 10 individuals were swept away in the incident, with four fortunate rescues made thus far. Ongoing efforts are underway to locate and rescue the remaining six missing individuals.

In response to the emergency, both police and government officials swiftly mobilized to the scene, ensuring that those who were rescued received necessary medical attention at nearby hospitals.

District Collector KC Sampath disclosed that the bridge, which linked the National Highway to the Chura tehsil, was an aging structure of approximately 40 years. Due to safety concerns, access to the bridge had been restricted for heavy vehicles.

It appears that the bridge’s collapse occurred as a dumper attempted to traverse it. The responsibility for the bridge had already been transferred to the Roads and Buildings Department, and approval had been granted for the construction of a new replacement structure, as confirmed by the Collector.
