A major accident occurred on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khopoli in Raigad district. A container truck that suffered brake failure while descending a slope caused a horrific incident involving 20 vehicles. The out-of-control truck rammed into multiple vehicles ahead of it, triggering a massive pile-up. The accident occurred on the Mumbai-bound lane, and the case falls under the jurisdiction of the Khopoli Police Station. The affected stretch spans from the new tunnel to the Food Mall area, where several four-wheelers and heavy vehicles were hit.
No fatalities have been reported so far; however, several people have sustained injuries, and many vehicles have suffered extensive damage. Emergency services are on-site.
According to media reports, the container truck lost control after a brake failure and ploughed into 20 vehicles traveling along the same route. The impacted vehicles included a BMW, a Mercedes, and several others. Nineteen people have been seriously injured in the crash and have been admitted to a hospital in Navi Mumbai.
The truck driver has been taken into custody. A medical examination has confirmed that he was not under the influence of any intoxicants at the time of the accident. The investigation into the matter is currently underway.
