Deepak Kumar Pathak, a resident of Amba in Teghra, Begusarai district, Patna allegedly staged a self-kidnapping drama. Initially, authorities filed a case of abduction, but it later emerged that Deepak himself orchestrated the incident. His family members facilitated his boarding of the Hathidah-Gaya train to start his training after he was reportedly selected for the Bihar Public Service Commission. At Khusrupur station, armed miscreants intercepted the Koshi Express and forcibly removed Deepak from the moving train.
His cousin, Harishankar Pathak, said that Deepak is married and has two children, and at present, he is serving as an accountant in the Chaurahi administrative office. Recently, he was selected for the post of Rural Development Officer through BPSC; training for which he had not joined yet. This last turn of events raises questions over what the motive behind Deepak’s self-staged abduction could be.
The incident came to pass when Deepak fled to the fields after being ejected from the train and availed himself of the opportunity to call his family. The family then passed the information to the local authorities and the GRP, alleging a kidnapping case. But, the investigators raised an eyebrow when they found that Deepak’s phone was deliberately kept switched off during the time of the alleged kidnapping.

Investigation is underway to know the reasons behind Deepak’s act. Meanwhile, the local authorities are examining how far this enacted kidnapping would affect and its related legal ramifications.
