New Delhi: Congress leader P Chidambaram on Friday reiterated that the protest by the grand-old party is “about price rise and Agnipath”. He further asserted that the Congress will continue to protest the increasing burden on common man.
Said the Congress leader: “This protest is about price rise and Agnipath. Price rise affects everybody. As a political party and as elected representatives we are bound to voice the grievances the burdens and the fears of the people. This is what we are doing.”
The Congress leaders Friday headed towards Rashtrapati Bhavan from Parliament but they were barred and detained by the Delhi Police.
However, Congress MPs were detained outside the Rajy Sabha when they were trying to march towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The protest was carried out against the “nakam” (unsuccessful) polices of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – led central government.
Earlier in the day, Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a press conference saying “Democracy is coming to an end”.

Members of the Congress started their protest even when the Delhi Police denied permission. The Congress members wore black to condemn the inflation and Agnipath scheme.
Owing to which, the Paramilitary forces and the Delhi police resorted to block Vijai Chowk road and the route from Parliament to President’s House by barricades.
The Congress leaders had also planned to ‘gherao’ the PM House.
Meanwhile, the saffron party alleged that the Congress is trying to cause a distraction due to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid in the National Herald Case.
