The Central Government has announced an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for six Rabi crops for the marketing season of 2025-26. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the MSP hike to provide better prices for farmers. The decision was announced on Wednesday by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw following the Cabinet meeting.
MSP Hike Details for Rabi Crops
The following crops will see an increase in MSP:
- Wheat: Increased by ₹150 per quintal to ₹2,425 from ₹2,275
- Barley: Increased by ₹130 per quintal to ₹1,980 from ₹1,850
- Gram: Increased by ₹210 per quintal to ₹5,650 from ₹5,440
- Lentil: Increased by ₹275 per quintal to ₹6,700 from ₹6,425
- Rapeseed/Mustard: Increased by ₹300 per quintal to ₹5,950 from ₹5,650
- Safflower: Increased by ₹140 per quintal to ₹5,940 from ₹5,800

Government’s Goal: Fair Pricing and Crop Diversification
The MSP increases are aligned with the Union Budget 2018-19 promise to set MSP at least 1.5 times the All-India weighted average cost of production. The expected margins over the average cost of production for the crops are:
- Wheat: 105%
- Rapeseed/Mustard: 98%
- Lentil: 89%
- Gram: 60%
- Barley: 60%
- Safflower: 50%
The increased MSP aims to offer farmers better returns and encourage diversification of crops.

PM Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) Receives ₹35,000 Crore Approval
In another major decision, the government has approved ₹35,000 crore for the PM Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA). This initiative is designed to safeguard farmers from distress sales during peak harvesting periods by ensuring they receive remunerative prices. Additionally, the scheme aims to stabilize market prices for consumers and promote self-sufficiency in pulses, oilseeds, and other essential agricultural commodities.
Promoting Farmers’ Welfare and Consumer Interests
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that the scheme will boost farmers’ income, protect consumers’ interests, and support the production of key agri-horticultural commodities. It also plays a crucial role in enhancing India’s self-reliance in essential crop production, further securing the agricultural economy.
