During an interview, Shambhu Sahni, the secretary of Maa Ganga Nishad Raj Seva Trust, mentioned that the Nishad community, predominantly consisting of boatmen, shares a strong bond with Lord Shri Ram. Nishad Raj had historically assisted Lord Shri Ram, Lakshman, and Maa Sita in crossing the river without any charge while they were en route to the forest.
In continuation of this tradition, Sahni stated that free boat services would be extended to devotees and tourists traveling across the Ganga, covering all 84 ghats of Banaras during the consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir. The decision was made during a meeting of the trust.
To mark the consecration of the Ram temple, a ‘shobha yatra’ or procession will be organized from Raj Ghat to Nishadraj Ghat. This event is expected to draw the participation of hundreds of people.
The resolution was reached during a gathering of boatmen from all 84 ghats in Varanasi. Pramod Manjhi, representing the Maa Ganga Nishadraj Seva Samiti, announced that on January 22, in conjunction with the community’s celebration of the pran pratishtha ceremony at the Ram Temple, boating services would be provided at no cost. Everyone is welcome to partake in a complimentary boat excursion from Assi to Rajghat or even traverse the Ganga River freely.
Additionally, the community plans to organize a boat procession from Raj Ghat to Assi Ghat. Pramod Manjhi mentioned that around 500 boats are expected to partake in this procession. He further noted that a child adorned as Ramlala would lead the procession on a boat. Sambhu Majhi added that the boats would be adorned with decorations, and a Shobha Yatra (a grand procession) is scheduled to take place around noon. This festive and visually captivating event is set to enhance the overall celebratory atmosphere surrounding the pran pratishtha ceremony.
