A row erupted in Parliament on Thursday after BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput sustained injuries after alleged clash with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. However, the Lok Sabha LoP has completely denied the allegations and further accused the BJP for blocking his way into the Parliament.
The matter has now escalated with different leaders of both the parties adding their reaction to the incident.
Here’s who said what:
Shivraj Singh Calls It Black day In Parliamentary History
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called it a black day in Parliamentary history and stated that the decorum has been torn apart. He said, “Democracy has been shredded and sullied. There is no other example like that of the hooliganism of Rahul Gandhi and Congress party…Such conduct was never seen in the Parliamentary history of India. Why are they releasing their frustration in Parliament if they lost Haryana and Maharashtra?…A workshop should be called to train Rahul Gandhi and Congress people to understand the conduct in democracy…I am sad…Amit Shah’s speech exposed Congress…They are so frustrated with it that they have stooped to hooliganism now. We condemn this hooliganism…”
We Will Take Action Says Arjun Ram Meghwal
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said, “Two leaders are injured. 4-5 other MPs have complained about this…All the Ps have the right to protest. He committed physical violence and he did not even go to see the condition of Sarangi ji…They have always done injustice to BR Ambedkar…They have always insulted him…We will take action as per the report from the hospital…”
Extremely Bad For Parliament- Shashi Tharoor
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor added, “I have not seen this, I would be surprised if someone does this. But I would like to tell you one thing, the Speaker had clearly said that you should not protest on the steps because it causes obstruction in people’s movement. So, we protested in front of Babasaheb’s statue…I think such things are extremely bad for Parliament…”
Kiren Rijiju Demands Apology
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju alleged that while the NDA MPs were protesting at the Makar Dwar, the main gate, the Congress MPs led by Rahul Gandhi came and assaulted, pushed two MPs of the BJP and pushed around other MPs also. He added, “I want to tell Rahul Gandhi if you resort to this kind of physical violence, if other MPs also start resorting to physical violence, what will happen? We believe in democracy. Who has given authorisation to Rahul Gandhi to use his physical power against other MPs. It doesn’t mean that the other MPs are weak. It’s only because we believe in non-violence and we believe in democracy. Rahul Gandhi’s physical attack against the MPs is condemnable. It is a gross misuse of his anger, his frustration and the way Rahul Gandhi has treated the Parliament, shows that Rahul Gandhi doesn’t believe in democracy.”
He further demanded Rahul’s apology and said, “I want to tell Rahul Gandhi we will see what appropriate action we can take. But he must tender an apology to the nation that he has used his physical strength against other MPs.”
