Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari Friday accused the Mamata Banerjee-led state government of 'illegal diversion of funds' allotted by the Centre.
In this matter, Adhikari has written to Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman alleging that the West Bengal government has engaged in 'malpractices'.
He said the state government withdrew a huge amount of money from the account in which the Centre deposits state fund. Adhikari alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led government extract money and then deposit it in State Emergency Relief Fund (SERF) account; which is under control of the Chief Minister.
The LoP alleged that the state government uses this money for other uses than its core purpose.
In his letter, the BJP leader has urged the Union Minister to set up an inquiry into the matter. He also mentioned that the officers appointed for the probe should be the ones who are not influenced by the ruling party in West Bengal.
