Lucknow: The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh on Monday won both the MLC seats in the by-polls by defeating Samajwadi Party Candidates. The BJP had fielded Manvendra Singh and Padmasen Chowdhary as its candidates in the by-election.

Padmasen Chowdhary got 279 votes, while SP leader Ramkaran got 116 votes. On the second seat,  BJP’s Manvendra Singh got 280 votes whereas SP’s Ramjatan got 116 votes.

Both these seats were vacated after the resignation of Laxman Acharya and the death of Banwarilal Dohra. The tenure of Acharya, who was made the governor of Sikkim, was to last till January 2027, but he resigned. While Dohre’s term was to end in July 2028.
