BJP To Contest With JDU, AJSU In Jharkhand Assembly Polls: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Almost all seat-sharing decisions are close to being finalized now, and the parties will complement each other's strengths before challenging the opposition in the polls.

BJP is set to form an alliance with JD(U) and AJSU for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly Polls, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed. As the BJP’s election co-in-charge for the state polls in Jharkhand, he said that the party will ally with the Janta Dal (United) and All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU). Most of the decisions on seat sharing have been reportedly taken.

Alliance In Pipeline

Regarding the upcoming elections, CM Sarma said that talks with JD(U) and AJSU Party are on. “Seat-sharing deal is nearly done. Only discussions on 1-2 seats are pending. We hope the alliance will be formalized soon,” said Sarma. Announcement After Pitru PakshaCM Sarma also accepted that the official declaration of this alliance would be done after Pitru Paksha, a period that people in the country believe is not favorable for beginning a venture. “We would declare the alliance once Pitru Paksha gets over,” he added.

Tough Alliance to Dent Opposition

With this tie-up, the BJP is looking to shore up its position in Jharkhand. The alliances will strengthen the vote base and present a united face against the ruling JMM-Congress alliance. Almost all seat-sharing decisions are close to being finalized now, and the parties will complement each other’s strengths before challenging the opposition in the polls.
This is the latest progression in BJP’s approach to Jharkhand Assembly polls to be held in the latter half of this year.

Currently, Hemant Soren is the sitting Chief Minister of Jharkhand. The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly election 2024 is going to be held between November and December 2024 to elect all 81 members in the legislative assembly.

Background Of Jharkhand Legislative Assembly

The term of the present Jharkhand Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on January 5, 2025. The last Assembly Elections were conducted in November–December 2019 which led to the formation of a coalition government of three parties i.e. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Indian National Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal forming the government. Hemant Soren from JMM was sworn in as the Chief Minister.
