Jharkhand: As the political landscape heats up in Jharkhand in the run-up to the upcoming state elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a bold promise to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) if voted to power. The party’s pledge comes amid growing concerns over alleged Bangladeshi infiltration, particularly in the Santhal region, which some claim has led to demographic shifts and a decline in the tribal population.

Concerns Over Infiltration and Demographic Changes

Union Minister and BJP’s election in-charge for Jharkhand, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, underscored the party’s focus on protecting the state from illegal immigration. Chouhan alleged that the infiltration has not only caused demographic changes in the region but also disrupted the tribal community’s cultural and social balance.

Speaking on the issue, Chouhan said, “This election is not just about selecting a Chief Minister. It is about safeguarding our land, our daughters, and our livelihoods. The demographic changes in Santhal Pargana due to Bangladeshi infiltrators are alarming. The tribal population, which once stood at over 44%, has now shrunk to 28%.”

Accusations Against the Soren Government

Chouhan also took a dig at the current state government led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, accusing it of facilitating illegal immigration for political gain. According to Chouhan, the Soren administration is enabling this infiltration by providing Aadhaar cards and enrolling infiltrators in the voter lists.

“In their greed for vote banks, the Soren government is allowing this infiltration. These infiltrators are taking over our lands, marrying tribal women, and exploiting them. Our daughters are being murdered,” Chouhan stated, stressing the severity of the issue.

BJP’s Strong Stand on Illegal Immigrants

Chouhan reiterated the BJP’s determination to implement the NRC in Jharkhand and remove all illegal immigrants from the state. Last month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his visit to Jharkhand, also made a strong statement, saying the BJP would “hang every Bangladeshi infiltrator upside down” to send a clear message if they are elected to power.

With the election campaigns expected to ramp up in the coming weeks, the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration is likely to remain a central theme in the political discourse.
