AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj has warned that Delhi’s worsening air crisis now demands urgent judicial intervention, thanking the Chief Justice of India (CJI) for flagging rising pollution levels while urging the courts to step in once again. The AAP Delhi Unit President said the BJP Government is manipulating pollution data to escape accountability, recalling that during the AAP Government’s tenure the courts repeatedly took suo motu cognisance and the administration complied with every directive.
Saurabh Bharadwaj questioned why courts’ vigilance has disappeared today, asking how long citizens must keep approaching the courts through lawyers when the crisis is being deliberately concealed. He demanded immediate suspension of officials involved in falsifying pollution figures, calling for strict action to restore credibility and protect public health.
During a media interaction on Thursday, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj thanked the Chief Justice of India for speaking on the pollution issue. He said, “A fundamental question has emerged in the minds of Delhiites. When the AAP Government was in power in Delhi, if medicines were depleted in hospitals or any other issue arose, the Supreme Court or the High Court would take suo motu cognisance. Similarly, when pollution levels rose, the judges themselves would intervene. Is the Delhi High Court unable to see today that at all AQI stations across Delhi, water is being sprinkled to create fake readings?”
The AAP Delhi Unit Chief further stated, “Is the Supreme Court not noticing that as soon as the AQI level rises, monitoring stations are shut down? Should the courts not take suo motu cognisance of these matters? How long will the public keep hiring lawyers and knocking on the doors of the courts?”
Saurabh Bharadwaj requested courts that in cases where the issues are plainly visible, the court should take suo motu cognisance and take action. “Otherwise, this data manipulation will only increase, people will continue to fall sick, and the BJP Government will keep claiming that they have reduced pollution levels,” he reasoned.
Saurabh Bharadwaj added that the question of whether the government can reduce pollution is separate, but no government can justify tampering with official pollution data. “Authorities like Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) are established to reduce pollution. How can the government openly manipulate pollution data like this? Strict action must be taken against the officers involved in this manipulation, and they should be suspended immediately,” he said.
