New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced its candidate for the by-election on a vacant seat of Rajya Sabha in Uttar Pradesh. The party has decided to field Dr. Dinesh Sharma as its candidate.
The Election Commission had recently announced to hold a by-election for Rajya Sabha from UP on September 15 on the seat vacant due to the death of senior BJP leader Hardware Dubey.
As per EC, September 5 will be the last date for nomination and the nominations will be scrutinized the next day. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is September 8. Election for the same will be held from 9 am to 4 pm and the counting of votes will be done after 5 pm same day.
Rajya Sabha member from UP Hardware Dubey died on June 26 in Delhi at the age of 72.
Dinesh Sharma has been the Deputy CM of UP
BJP candidate Dinesh Sharma was the Deputy Chief Minister of UP during the first term of Yogi Adityanath government from 2017 to 2022. Sharma, a professor of commerce at Lucknow University, has been the Mayor of Lucknow for two consecutive terms.
The former UP’s Deputy CM was first elected as the President of Lucknow Vidyarthi Parishad in the year 1987. Then, in 1991, he was made the state vice president of the state BJP Yuva Morcha. When the BJP government was formed, he was given the status of Minister of State and made the Vice President of UP Tourism Development Corporation. For the first time in the year 2006, Dinesh Sharma was elected the mayor of Lucknow.
