DK Shivakumar, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister and a leader of the Congress party, has assigned nodal officers for a constituency in Bengaluru in response to a severe water shortage in the city. However, this decision has faced criticism from the BJP, which has described it as “stepmotherly.” This criticism arises because the constituency falls under the Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha constituency, represented by Shivakumar’s brother, DK Suresh.

BJP Accused Karnataka’s Deputy CM

The BJP has accused DK Shivakumar of showing favoritism and neglecting other areas of the city. Additionally, the party has accused the ruling Congress of engaging in political maneuvers ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Bengaluru Water Crisis

The Karnataka government’s decision to appoint a nodal officer specifically for Rajarajeshwari Nagar during Bengaluru’s water shortage has drawn criticism from Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra. He believes it shows favoritism and neglect. Karnataka BJP Vice President Malavika Avinash agrees with Vijayendra, saying it’s unfair for the government to focus on Rajarajeshwari Nagar, which is part of DK Shivakumar’s brother Suresh’s constituency when the entire city is facing water scarcity.

Water shortage in Bengaluru has become severe, with borewells drying up in many parts of the city. Private tanker operators increased their prices due to the crisis. However, on March 7, the district administration stepped in and set fixed rates for 200 tankers for four months.
