Have you heard about schoolteachers being penalized for ‘bed performance”? It may sound strange, but in Bihar’s Jamui district, the education department deducted the salaries of 13 teachers for being absent from duty and for their “bed performance” instead of “bad performance,” which sparked protests from teaching associations.

The performance of many teachers was also found to be unsatisfactory. Taking this matter seriously, the local district education officer (DEO) issued an official letter detailing the actions taken against the teachers who were found at fault. However, the content of the letter seemed to highlight more about the issues within the education department rather than solely focusing on the teachers.

According to the letter, as many as 13 teachers had their salaries deducted for “bed performance”. However, when the letter went viral on social media, the office of the DEO quickly issued a clarification. The DEO’s office clarified that “bad performance” was mistakenly typed as “bed performance” due to a typing error.
