To live in India, one should have to carry multiple types of documents such as PAN, Aadhar, driving licence, voter ID, etc. All these documents are compulsory, and they are mandatory in places like opening a bank account or driving a vehicle.
There is one more document, which we often consider as least important, and this is called a birth document. People often think that the birth certificate is only compulsory at the time of taking admission, but it is mandatory in other work also, such as applying for government schemes.
Recently, the Indian government has made some changes and introduced a deadline to apply for the document.
The deadline is set by the government to expedite the process of those people whose birth certificate is pending. If you don’t have a birth certificate, apply before you miss the deadline. The deadline to apply for the birth certificate is April 27, 2026.
If there is any mistake in your birth certificate, you can also apply for the changes before the set deadline because after April 27, 2026, the option to make changes will be disabled.
A birth certificate was previously only accessed before you turned 15-year-old. This rule has now been relaxed, and people who are above the age of 15 can apply for a birth certificate. Earlier the deadline was December 31, 2024, but the government has now set this deadline to be April 27, 2026.
If you does not have a birth certificate, you can visit the official website of the Government of India at https://dc.crsorgi.gov.in/crs/ to register online and submit their application. Additionally, those who want to make changes to their existing certificate or are over the age of 15 must apply offline by visiting the local municipal corporation office.
