“Those who raped a 5-month pregnant woman and killed her 3-year-old girl were released during the ‘Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav’. What is the message giving to the women of the country who are talking about women power? Prime Minister, the whole country is seeing the difference between your words and deeds,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

11 people who had been convicted of the gang-rape of Bilkis Bano and the murder of 7 of her family members during the Gujarat riots in March 2002 had been freed from Godhra Sub Jail during Independence Day 2022 on August 15, under the state’s policy of offering remission of sentences.
