A four-member delegation from Bihar will visit the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) on May 28. The purpose of this visit is to obtain information about the functioning and financial management of the authority, so that the possibility of setting up a similar institution for expressway construction in Bihar can also be considered.
A delegation led by Shirsat Kapil Ashok, Managing Director, Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL), is on a visit to Uttar Pradesh. The team comprises Manish Kumar, Joint Budget Controller from the Finance Department, and Mobashir Nayyar and Abdul Matin Akhtar from KPMG India.
At present, Bihar does not have a single expressway, while Uttar Pradesh is a leader in expressway infrastructure in the country. In the last eight years, Uttar Pradesh has rapidly expanded its road network to boost industrial development. Six expressways are currently operational in the state, while six others are under construction. In addition, UPEDA has proposed nine new expressway projects, which on completion, will take the total expressway length in the state to 4,374 km.
During its visit, the Bihar team will study various aspects of UPEDA’s functioning, including the process of land acquisition, coordination with departments in obtaining No Objection Certificate (NOC), and funding model. The information obtained from this visit will help the Bihar Government in preparing a strategy for expressway development in the state.
