Amid the ongoing Bihar voter list row, the Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Election Commission of India to publish details of approximately 65 lakh voters who were omitted from the January 2025 electoral roll. The Court’s instructions follow the special intensive revision ahead of the Bihar polls.
A bench led by Justices Surya Kant and Joymala Bagchi said, “Transparency is needed about 65 lakh deleted voters to enable people to seek clarification or correction.” Additionally, the apex court directed the Election Commission to accept Aadhaar cards and EPIC numbers as valid documents for identity verification.
The list shall be displayed booth-wise by the district electoral officer, along with the reason for their non-inclusion, the bench further stated. The poll body is also required to obtain compliance proofs from all BLOs and district-level officers. It should further submit a consolidated status report to the Supreme Court. The case is scheduled to be heard on August 22 at 2 p.m.
